Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 29, 2026

Black Duck ("we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Black Duck app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using Black Duck, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

We do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email address, or password to use the app.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information:

  • Device and usage data — such as device model, operating system version, app version, language, and basic crash or diagnostic logs.
  • Approximate location — such as your country or region, determined from your IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location.
  • Advertising identifier — used to display ads in the free version of the app, and used for personalized advertising only if you allow tracking when prompted by iOS.
  • Notifications data — if you enable notifications, a push token may be assigned to your device so notifications can be delivered.
  • Purchase status — we may store on your device whether you have an active premium plan or lifetime access. Payments are processed by Apple, and we do not receive your full payment card information.

Your books, audio files, videos, photos, and other media saved in Black Duck are stored only on your device or in your personal iCloud account, depending on how you use the app. We do not upload, access, or store your personal media files on our own servers.

2. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • operate and maintain the app;
  • provide core features and content playback;
  • display and measure advertising in the free version;
  • process and restore purchases;
  • send notifications if you enable them;
  • detect abuse, fraud, or technical issues;
  • improve app stability, performance, and user experience.

3. Advertising and Tracking

The free version of Black Duck may display ads through Google AdMob and related advertising services. These services may receive certain data, such as advertising identifiers, approximate location, device information, and usage-related signals, to provide, measure, and improve advertising.

On iOS, we request permission before using your advertising identifier for personalized advertising. If you do not allow tracking, you may still see ads, but they may be less personalized.

You can change your tracking choice at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking on your device.

Purchasing a premium plan removes ads from the app.

4. Subscriptions and Purchases

Black Duck offers a free version and premium purchase options, which may include:

  • Monthly or yearly subscriptions that renew automatically unless cancelled;
  • Lifetime access as a one-time purchase, if offered.

Payments are charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.

You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID account settings after purchase. If offered, any unused portion of a free trial will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

All billing, refunds, and subscription management are handled by Apple in accordance with Apple’s policies.

5. Data Storage

Most user content in Black Duck is stored locally on your device. Some data may also be stored in your personal iCloud environment if you choose to use Apple services that sync or back up your content.

We do not maintain a central account system for your media library and do not store your personal books, audio, video, or photo collection on our own servers.

6. Third-Party Services

Black Duck may rely on third-party services to operate certain features, including:

  • Apple, for payments, subscriptions, app distribution, and platform services;
  • Google AdMob, for advertising in the free version;
  • Crash, diagnostics, or analytics tools, if used to improve reliability and performance.

These third parties may process data in accordance with their own privacy policies and legal obligations.

7. Children’s Privacy

Black Duck is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe that a child has provided personal information in violation of applicable law, please contact us through our contact form so we can review the issue.

8. Your Choices

You can control certain privacy-related choices directly through your device and Apple account settings, including:

  • whether to allow tracking for personalized advertising;
  • whether to enable notifications;
  • whether to purchase or cancel a subscription;
  • whether to use iCloud-related features available through Apple.

Because most content is stored locally on your device, you can also remove your content at any time by deleting it from the app or uninstalling the app.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of Black Duck after changes become effective means you accept the revised Privacy Policy.
